Of the Greek Islands, Mykonos is a very popular Greek Island to visit!

Of the 6000 Greek Islands, Mykonos is one of the most popular Greek Islands to visit… especially with it’s most amazingly turquoise water & beaches!

On our 1st ever visit to Mykonos, during our amazing Mediterranean Cruise, we took some cool pictures and video that we’ll share with you today, but first, can you tell us who the town’s official mascot is?

Yes, that’s right…

…the official mascot of Mykonos is the great while pelican!

Say hi to Petros. 🙂

The main town of Mykonos (also known as Chora) is a very picturesque town with curvy walls (not a sharp edge to be found… which is why it is so inviting) not to mention that the town is painted white and sprinkled with contrast colors like bright blue shutters and colouful pink flowers…

Oh, it’s just “so” beautiful to visit! We truly loved it here!

One iconic part of Mykonos you’ll see as well, pretty much from everywhere in town, is their famous windmills… in the 16th Century they were a big part of the island’s inhabitants income but these days they’re mostly for us tourists… they sure are pretty though! 🙂

An interesting thing we found out while walking about the medieval cobblestone streets of this most popular Greek Island, was that the walkways & roads weave in and out in all directions… almost maze-like. Back in the day, this design was made on purpose to trick the pirates into getting lost so they couldn’t take over the land. Pretty smart huh?

For us, it was just plain old fun to walk about and imagine what it was like back in the day! 🙂

And make sure when “getting lost” in town to stroll by the “Little Venice” area… with the houses built & perched over the water it’s another very picturesque setting.

Of course, as we did our stroll through town we did some window shopping as the shops are filled with uniquely hand crafted goodies, fresh fruit and veggie stands, the smell of ouzo in the air from taste testing and so much more…

…plus, we can’t forget to tell you about the fresh olives, tomatoes, tzatziki & pita and local made beer we had before departing!

Our tummies were happy happy, as yours will be, when you visit and have fun in the Greek Island of Mykonos! 🙂
